Experiences & Accomplishments
Dr. Qureshi is a social epidemiologist studying the interplay between young people's social environments, mental health, and chronic disease risk. Her research uses positive youth development theory to explore the extent to which early psychosocial assets (e.g., psychological well-being, positive family relationships, and social capital) help adolescents (1) establish positive mental and physical health trajectories through the transition to adulthood, and (2) mitigate social disparities in stress-related chronic diseases across the life course. Her areas of expertise include cardiovascular epidemiology, psychiatric epidemiology, life course models of health and disease, longitudinal data analysis, and advanced epidemiologic methods. Dr. Qureshi has conducted research in numerous longitudinal cohorts, including the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, the Coronary Artery Risk in Young Adults Study, the Nurses’ Health Study, Project Viva, the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children, the Generation R Study, and the 1958 British Birth Cohort.
