Overview
Dr. Shima Hamidi is Bloomberg Assistant Professor of American Health in Environmental Challenges, Core faculty member of the Bloomberg American Health Initiative and Assistant Professor with the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering. Prior to Joining JHU, Dr. Hamidi was the founder and director of the Center for Transportation Equity, Decisions and Dollars (CTEDD), funded by the US Department of Transportation at the University of Texas at Arlington where she led a consortium of five universities including UT Arlington, Georgia Tech, University of Wisconsin Madison, University of South Florida and CalPoly SLO to tackle challenges related to transportation, environment and public health, particularly through the lens of equity.
Dr. Hamidi has expertise in geospatial data, built environment, housing and transportation and their connections to public health. She has written over 50 books and articles on urban form and its impacts on individuals’ upward mobility, public health, traffic safety, emergence of food deserts, housing affordability, location efficiency and life expectancy. Her work on urban sprawl and its quality of life impacts has been cited in more than 110 national and regional newspapers and magazines such as Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and CNN Money.
