Overview

Prof. Dr. habil. Bach Tran's research primarily focuses on applying decision analytic modeling to inform the development and evaluation of health technologies and policies. He possesses extensive experience consulting for United Nations agencies, international organizations, and governments on global health and development issues in Asia. His work primarily centers on identifying cost-effective interventions, assessing health services and innovations, and strengthening health systems, particularly in relation to HIV/AIDS and emerging diseases in the region. 

Dr. Tran has received numerous international research awards, including the Hopkins Center for AIDS Research’s International Research Award, the 2023 ISPOR LMIC Research Excellence Award, and the 2024 IBTN LMIC Investigator Award. He was also a runner-up for the 2022 APEC Research Prize on Healthy Women, Healthy Economies and is a two-time recipient of Research.com’s Rising Star of Science Award in 2022 and 2023. Dr. Tran frequently publishes in highly-regarded international journals in global health sciences, including The Lancet, the Bulletin of the World Health Organization, and AIDS and Behaviors. His impactful contributions have led to recognition as a Highly Cited Researcher (Top 1%) by Clarivate in both 2022 and 2023. 

Dr. Tran earned his PhD in Health Services Policy in 2011 from the University of Alberta, Canada. He completed a NIH/IAS postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University and a Habilitation-to-Direct Research (HDR) from Aix-Marseille University, France. He is an alumnus of the Inter Academy Medical Panel’s Young Physician Leaders program (2013) and served as an Executive Committee Member of the Global Young Academy from 2018 to 2019. Since 2015, he has co-chaired the Global Health Innovations Network (GHIN), which aims to foster innovations, research, and publications towards sustainable health and development in LMICs. 

Currently, Dr. Tran is a Professor and Vice Head of the Health Economics Department at Hanoi Medical University and Chair of the Institute of Health Economics and Technology, Vietnam. As Vice President of the Vietnam Young Physician Association, Dr. Tran has been a pioneer in promoting research and evidence-based medicine in the Vietnamese healthcare system."
