International Health Centennial Events

In February, the Department of International Health hosted a series of seminars to celebrate the centennial of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. While commemorating past achievements, each seminar also looked to the future, with a special focus on emerging global health challenges

IH Centennial Events

We were honored to welcome home two of our esteemed alumni, Abdul Ghaffar, MD, PhD '01, MPH and Karabi Acharya, MHS '87, ScD '93. Dr. Ghaffar spoke about the future of global health systems and the importance of preparing public health professionals to confront health systems challenges. Dr. Acharya discussed how we can build a culture of health by thinking globally and looking at underlying structures and systems. We also welcomed back emeritus professor, Dr. Benjamin Caballero, who presented findings from his work on blindness, weight fluctuation, and chronic disease in Cuba. With the University's Berman Institute of Bioethics, Professor and Chair David Peters joined faculty from the Department and the Institute to discuss ethical challenges emerging in global health.

You can find all the month's seminars in the Department's Centennial YouTube playlist.
