Provides an overview of the HPM Department Qualifying Examination. Helps HPM doctoral students use the Qualifying Exam as a model to synthesize course content from their first year with a specific focus on problem identification and the development of testable hypotheses; how to develop a conceptual model; approaches for conducting a literature review and synthesis, examining intervention alternatives, and how to identify next steps in research, policy and practice.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Identify a public health problem and develop testable hypotheses
- Use conceptual models to frame a public health problem
- Explain the basic components of a policy analysis
- Outline the components of the HPM Department qualifying exam
Methods of Assessment
This course is evaluated as follows:
- 10% Participation
- 90% Develop a practice Qualifying Exam
