Description
Donors have increasingly been calling for health and development programs that are gender responsive and gender transformative. What does it mean to be gender transformative in public health programming? What are proven approaches that can be integrated into health programs? This course will shed light on these questions.
Introduces the practical knowledge and skills needed to design gender transformative programs. Presents commonly used frameworks, evidence-based programs and indicators to understand and measure how gender transformative a program is. Focuses on case studies and hands-on practice.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Distinguish between gender-blind, gender-exploitative, gender-accommodating, and gender transformative programs
  2. Describe features of a gender transformative programming
  3. Identify key evidenced-based gender transformative interventions that have demonstrated contributions to health and development outcomes
  4. Identify common gender measures used in development programming
  5. Design a gender transformative program
