Description:

Introduces the nutrition care process (NCP) and the nutrition-focused physical exam (NFPE). Teaches the different components of the exam and applies them in the Johns Hopkins Simulation Lab through activities.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify the components of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP)
  2. Recognize clinical signs of nutrient deficiencies
  3. Identify muscle wasting, fat loss and nutrition related edema as characteristics of malnutrition
  4. Demonstrate Nutrition-Focused Physical Exam (NFPE) skills
Methods of Assessment:

This course is evaluated as follows:

  • 20% Participation
  • 80% SIM lab

Enrollment Restriction:

Only MSPH Dietitian students in their first year are allowed
