Description:

Prepares first-year PhD students in the Health Systems program area to develop and defend their research proposal. Practices formulating a research question, conducting a systematic literature review, and drafting, presenting, and critiquing research proposals.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Appraise and apply scientifically sound and appropriate methods and tools to design a research study including a conceptual/theoretical framework, study instrument, sampling design, and plan for data analysis
  2. Formulate a research question, develop or identify a conceptual framework, conduct a brief literature review, and describe a range of study designs
Methods of Assessment:

This course is evaluated as follows:

  • 20% Participation
  • 40% Discussion
  • 40% Written Assignment(s)

Enrollment Restriction:

Only for PhD in Health Systems students in their first year.
