Description
Explores organizational behavior perspectives and theories, which provide the framework for the critical study of management, and the interpersonal skills and knowledge required by managers in the dynamic health sector. Developes an approach to thinking about health sector organizations and their complexity. Emphasizes current thinking and the application of theory to practice in the areas of governance, leadership, and management, employee motivation (e.g., empowering others), group behavior and team development (e.g., fostering collaboration and decision-making), power and influence plus conflict management and negotiation skills.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Explain alternate organizational behavior perspectives and conceptual frameworks
  2. Explain how personality and perception influence behavior in organizations
  3. Apply theories and concepts of governance and leadership, including the importance of vision, to motivation and teamwork to develop strategies for fostering collaboration and improving organizational performance
  4. Assess the influence of organizational culture and vision on empowering others, guiding decision making, and on management and employee behavior
  5. Apply theories and concepts of conflict management and negotiation to improve organizational communication and performance
