Description
Considers the principles of successful clinical research strategies and the requirements of funding agencies. Identifies a defined research project together with a suitable team of mentors and collaborators. Develops a written research proposal in the format of a grant application which integrates the scientific principles of the GTPCI curriculum.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Generate and present valid research questions that address topics of public health importance
  2. Develop a research proposal that includes specific aims and hypotheses, significance of the research questions, their innovation, a scientific approach to addressing these questions, and their public health implications
  3. Formulate appropriate epidemiological approaches to testing research hypotheses
  4. Reflect on the fundamental ethical principles that govern biomedical research and judge the adequacy of research proposals within the context of these principles
  5. Review grant applications to assess content, significance, study design and appropriate analysis plan
