Description:

Explores a variety of tools and methods applied by GDEC faculty to conduct public health research with a focus on hands-on skills building. Includes topics: communication and data visualization strategies; and considerations for research projects which involve human subjects.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Choose appropriate tools and methods for data visualization in order to share data with diverse audiences
  2. Explain important issues and considerations for research studies involving human subjects and oversight by Institutional Review Boards (IRBs)
  3. Develop data skills needed for public health practice, including problem-solving, analytic thinking, visualization, communication, and collaboration
  4. Analyze large-scale data from low-and-middle income settings or from global health agencies to illustrate and interpret a public health priority

  • 30% Participation
