Prerequisite
Considers the principles of successful clinical research strategies and the requirements of funding agencies. Identifies a defined research project together with a suitable team of mentors and collaborators. Develops a written research proposal in the format of a grant application which integrates the scientific principles of the GTPCI curriculum.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Generate and present valid research questions that address topics of public health importance
- Develop a research proposal that includes specific aims and hypotheses, significance of the research questions, their innovation, a scientific approach to addressing these questions, and their public health implications
- Formulate appropriate epidemiological approaches to testing research hypotheses
- Reflect on the fundamental ethical principles that govern biomedical research and judge the adequacy of research proposals within the context of these principles
- Review grant applications to assess content, significance, study design and appropriate analysis plan

- 99% written grant application and associated materials
Final grade applies to all terms
