Designed to prepare first-year PhD students in the Health Systems program area to develop and defend their research proposal. Students will practice formulating a research question, conducting a systematic literature review, and drafting, presenting and critiquing research proposals.
- Learning Objectives:

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the elements of a research proposal
- Formulate a research question, develop or identify a conceptual framework, conduct a brief literature review, and describe a range of study designs
- Analyze and present a critique of a scientific journal article
- Draft, present and defend an outline of a research proposal and to critique the proposals of fellow students
- Methods of Assessment:
Classroom presentation and a 5-10 page paper required.
