Globalization is inevitable and public health practitioners must be in capacity to take advantage of its opportunities and also to mitigate its risks

The globalization of knowledge, human capital and services opens a windows of opportunity to provide more equitable, less expensive and higher quality health services

Everything in life has positive and negative effects, and globalization is just one example of this reality. This course evaluates how globalization creates challenges and opportunities for health systems and health outcomes in general. Students discuss evidence on globalization and health, and propose strategies to leverage its opportunities and mitigates its risks.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Discuss the existing evidence on the impact of globalization on population health, and health systems
  2. Explain the opportunities and challenges of globalization, and consider its potential future effect on population health, and health systems
  3. Apply strategies to catalyze the opportunities of globalization and to mitigate its negative effects
