Professional Epidemiologic Methods: Topics and Methods for Health Situation Analysis

Introductory epidemiology and biostatistics

Description:

Focuses on epidemiological methods and tools used in key health situation analyses. Includes the use of prospective epidemiological scenarios for monitoring health targets and indications. Also covers examples of health priority setting assessments; health needs assessments, and the methods for epidemiological stratification of public health problems. Laboratory exercises provide experience with applying concepts, methods and tools to problems drawn from real epidemiological data and published literature.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

1. Recognize the framework of essential public health functions and services for developing prospective epidemiological scenarios
2. Identify and apply main epidemiological metrics and tools for health priority selection
3. Recognize the epidemiological frameworks and indicators for public health needs assessments
4. Describe and apply the main epidemiological risk measures (RR, RAp) in developing epidemiological profiles of critical populations and areas at local and national levels

Methods of Assessment:

This course is evaluated as follows:

• 60% Lab Assignments
• 40% Final Exam
