Provides students with an understanding of the core features, characteristics, values, culture, and systems that lead to high performance for population health. Introduces evidence-based approaches such as the Baldrige framework that allow organizations to address performance gaps and develop robust processes and a culture of continuous improvement and excellence to improve the health of populations. Utilizes a case study approach to share best practices within population health that lead to sustained high performance.
- Learning Objectives:
- Identify major external forces and their role in shaping missions and managerial challenges
- Explain the basic concepts and foundations of high performing organizations
- Analyze the role of leadership in developing core values and concepts
- Perform a performance gap analysis using an evidence based framework
- Apply principles from an evidence based framework to improve organizational performance
- Create a performance management and improvement plan for their organization

- 10% Reflection
- 50% Final Paper
- 30% Two case studies, worth 15% each
