Description
Are you interested to learn how to determine whether a program is effective? This course teaches students to describe a program from the lens of an evaluator and the skills and knowledge needed to conduct a program evaluation.
Familiarizes students in different types of program evaluation, including process and impact evaluations, as well as implementation research. Provides practical experience through a series of exercises involving the design of a logic model, development of indicators, using qualitative research for evaluation, and the development of an evaluation plan to measure impact. Introduces experimental, quasi-experimental, and non-experimental study designs, including the strengths and limitations of each.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Describe a program from the lens of an evaluator
  2. Develop indicators based on the logic model
  3. Identify sources of data at the program and population level corresponding to different types of evaluations
  4. Describe the main components of a process evaluation and methods that can be used to address each component
  5. Describe the core elements of experimental and quasi-experimental designs, and explain how they address the threats to validity
