- Description:

Explores a variety of tools and methods applied by GDEC faculty to conduct public health research with a focus on hands-on skills building. Specific topics include: finding and managing public datasets; exploratory analysis using secondary data (e.g. calculating standard indicators); data visualization strategies; and considerations for research projects which involve human subjects.
- Learning Objectives:

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Identify and access key sources of publicly available data relevant to specific health issues
- Manage and manipulate a DHS dataset to tabulate survey variables in Stata or R
- Choose appropriate tools and methods for data visualization in order to share data with diverse audiences
- Explain important issues and considerations for research studies involving human subjects and oversight by Institutional Review Boards (IRBs)
