Developing negotiation and mediation skills is critical for public health professionals to best represent the populations they serve, optimize resources, and to achieve program objectives.
Offers students opportunities to apply negotiation and mediation principles and models to “get to yes” in their public health negotiation simulations. Uses a negotiation and mediation simulation that will enable students to practice the art of negotiating and examine their personal strengths and weaknesses in these processes.
- Learning Objectives:

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Apply mediation and negotiation theory to the practice of skillful mediation and negotiation
- Analyze how mediation and negotiation models work for each student personally in the course simulation
- Address ethical issues in negotiation and mediation in public health problem simulations
- Methods of Assessment:
Participation: 10%, Pre-mediation/negotiation statement: 25%, Negotiation and mediation simulation: 25%, Reflection & Self-Assessment Simulation Experience: 40%
