Description
The workshop relates to developing skills in the critical reading of epidemiologic reports. Key epidemiologic concepts and methods will be reviewed in the first part of the workshop, including bias, confounding and interaction. In the second part, the key issues and common mistakes in the preparation of epidemiologic reports of empirical research will be discussed. The students will receive first drafts of papers submitted to the American Journal of Epidemiology in advance of the workshop for discussion during the workshop.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Read and interpret reports of epidemiological studies
  2. Identify sources of bias in epidemiological findings and determine how they have been addressed in epidemiologic articles
  3. Understand the peer review process
