Basic biostatistics and epidemiology
Following a review of the basic strengths and problems of the case-control method, students examine the application of this popular method of investigation. Discusses itsuse in evaluation of risk factors, interventions, and as a surveillance tool.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the case-control study paradigm in relation to other observational epidemiologic designs
- Define the criteria for case and control selection in a case-control study
- Distinguish between the various exposure measurement approaches used in case-control studies
- Conduct the appropriate analysis of case-control data
- Properly interpret the results of case-control studies in the context of causal pathways
