Uses film and television to examine and question the public health cultural landscape in society. Explores a range of current public health research, policy, and practice topics. Each session involves watching film and television excerpts coupled with a brief overview of the public health issue and class discussion.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the ways in which film and television educate the public about public health topics
- Analyze film and television by content, point of view, accuracy, tone, style, cinematography, and use of music and images
- Understand the scientific, ethical, and political implications of the portrayal of public health issues in film and television
