Description
Analyzes the structure, organization, administration and management of social and health service programs serving the maternal and child health populations. Lectures, discussions, and analysis of current research and practice present the goals and impact of national programs such as Title V MCH/CSHCN, Medicaid/CHIP, Head Start, Family Planning, WIC/Nutrition, community/migrant health centers, child welfare, and of privately sponsored programs.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. describe the body of federal legislation that mandates and provides funds for the delivery of services to women and children
  2. apply strategies to influence the legislative, budget, and administrative processes at the federal and state levels
  3. describe the structure of the health care system that provides services for women and children, with a special focus on the public sector that serves those of low income
  4. apply tools and strategies to manage MCH services and related programs
  5. identify key issues related to the implementation and evaluation of maternal and child health legislation and programs
