Description
Discusses noise-related topics, such as physics of noise propagation and control, noise measurement, hearing physiology, and noise-induced hearing loss, and covers non-ionizing radiation lasers, heat and cold stress, and vibration.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Describe the components of an acceptable hearing conservation program
  2. Define the mechanisms by which noise induces hearing loss
  3. Calculate noise exposure metrics and compare them to acceptable exposure criteria
  4. Operate a sound level meters noise dosimeters
  5. Define hazard classification system for laser safety programs
  6. Assess the acceptability of exposures to radiofrequency non-ionizing radiation
  7. Describe basic radiation health concepts and methods for detecting ionizing radiation
  8. Assess occupational heat stress risk
