Description
Students develop an understanding of the role of the organizational leader, and the essential knowledge and skills the role requires. Designed to provide a framework for understanding the process of working effectively with and leading others. Drawing from a variety of disciplines, places emphasis on the role of the leader in relation to organizational effectiveness, developing a vision for the future, leading change, and building adaptive organizational cultures.
Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
  1. Explain the nature of organizational leadership
  2. Provide examples of the requirements for effective public health and health service organizational leadership
  3. Apply principles and theories of leadership to current health care and health sector issues and challenges
  4. Appreciate the importance of self-awareness and relationship management to effective leadership
  5. Determine the requirements of leading a health organization through innovative change
  6. Develop a personal philosophy and approach to the practice of leadership
