Concurrently enrolled in 410.615 Research Design in the Social and Behavioral Sciences


Engages the students in additional discussion about research design elements, provides hands-on experience with measurement and sampling issues using statistical software, as well as provides an opportunity to orally present a research design. Engages students in devising research questions and conceptual frameworks, conducting measurement validity and reliability diagnostics, conducting power analyses, exploring missing data problems and solutions, critiquing articles, and introducing qualitative analysis.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Propose a sound research question and hypothesis
  2. Assess scale dimensionality/reliability, power, and missing data
  3. Orally present a research design
  4. Read, evaluate, and critique existing social science research
Methods of Assessment:

Three brief (1 to 2 page) written assignments, one 10 minute oral presentation, and class participation
