Focuses on occupational and environmental health and the role of the nurse in these settings. Emphasizes the interaction of the worker with his/her work place and the maintenance of health and prevention of disease. Seminars and directed reading focus on approaches to recognizing and preventing occupational and environmental disease, selected hazardous exposures and their health effects, and the components of an occupational health program. A field trip to a local industry provides an opportunity to participate in a plant walk-through and to complete a written work place assessment that incorporates the nursing process.
