General Preventive Medicine Residency

Transitional Internship Track

The program currently has one transitional internship (PGY-1) training slot offered jointly with Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York.

If you are interested in this program, you will need to first apply in ERAS to  Bassett Healthcare for a transitional or preliminary slot.

The applications will be screened by both Bassett Healthcare and the Hopkins General Preventive Medicine Residency (GPMR) Admissions Committees.

Applicants who meet the criteria and are selected for an interview will then be contacted and invited to apply to the Hopkins General Preventive Medicine Residency Program-Hopkins Master of Public Health through SOPHAS.  Invited applicants must complete the SOPHAS application for the HOPKINS GPMR/MPH Program which will be reviewed by both the Hopkins GPMR and MPH Admissions Committees.  Acceptance to the Hopkins MPH program is required for admission to the residency program.

Applicants who have been invited to apply to the transitional internship program and who have earned their MPH degree, may be eligible to apply to the RES-GPMR program.  Note: you may be required to take additional ACGME-required preventive medicine coursework.

Subsequent to the interview process, applicants will register for the "Match" and indicate a preference for the Johns Hopkins/Bassett program.  If an applicant matches with that program, he/she will do a PGY-1 internship at Bassett Healthcare prior to beginning the first year of GPMR residency training (PGY-2) at Johns Hopkins.
