Fuel creativity and ensure excellence by cultivating a diverse, inclusive and nurturing environment

Implementation Progress

Cultivate and advance a climate of inclusion for all staff, students, faculty and visitors of the Bloomberg School, across race, socioeconomic background, gender and age, citizenship, religion, sexual identity and other characteristics that contribute to the diversity of our community.

VISION

To achieve excellence, we aim to cultivate a climate of inclusion for all staff, students, faculty, and visitors of the Bloomberg School, across race, socioeconomic background, gender and age, citizenship, religion, sexual identity, and other characteristics that contribute to the diversity of our community. We will appoint a new director for Inclusion and Diversity who will coordinate Schoolwide efforts to cultivate and advance a climate of inclusion, diversity, and equity in collaboration with the School’s Committee on Equity, Diversity, and Civility. We will monitor and report trends in diversity of faculty, students, and staff—indicators of an inclusive and equitable School climate—and progress of the School’s scholarship on inclusion, diversity, and equity in health. We will implement programs to recognize and address bias through ongoing dialogue and explicit training, as well as explore other opportunities for raising awareness of overt and micro-aggression forms of bias in our School and beyond our walls. We will promote teaching and scholarship on the value of health equity, diversity, and inclusion by offering pilot grants that will lead to high-impact research and translational activities.
