Enrich our practice-focused education by ensuring students have the knowledge and skills to work across sectors and tackle multifaceted global public health challenges.
We are committed to training students in the knowledge and skills required to work across sectors and tackle multifaceted public health challenges. We are broadening our teaching and deepening the ways we assess the core skills of public health practice. Our faculty and staff will continue to serve as examples of how to engage policymakers to develop programs and policies to strengthen the public’s health. We will draw on our extensive networks to expand the opportunities for real-world training for our students, within traditional and nontraditional areas of public health. We are committed to applying best practices for inclusive design for learning, allowing maximum accessibility to the content offered at the School and providing the opportunity to significantly advance health for all people. We will ensure our curricula incorporate a social justice approach to problem- solving that prioritizes equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Expanding efforts to recruit MPH and DrPH students from outside the traditional boundaries of public health
- Working to establish a council of MSPH directors, who will meet quarterly to facilitate sharing of best practices and ensure integrity of CEPH curriculum
- Continuing to grow SOURCE’s network of more than 100 partnering nonprofits in Baltimore, providing more opportunities for applied learning
- Developing new service-learning courses and working to integrate service-learning opportunities into existing courses, providing real-world public health practice opportunities using a social justice lens
- Working with SOURCE and the Office of Public Health Practice, increasing practicum opportunities with agencies outside the traditional boundaries of public health
- Establishing the Health Policy Institute to expand opportunities for student internships with policymakers
- Developing mechanism to assess extent to which competencies are met through practicum/internship experiences
- Creating a course designation for practicum and service-learning courses to expand practice-learning opportunities and strengthen relationships with and contributions to partner organizations
- Appointed Beth Resnick, PhD, as assistant dean for practice and training
- Trained three new SOURCE Service-Learning Faculty and three new Community Fellows, bringing total trained faculty and fellows to 31 and 22, respectively
