Frequently Asked Questions
What is the exact name of the scholarship I received?
Please contact Rory McPhillips at rorymcphillips@jhu.edu and she will be happy to provide you with the name of your scholarship.
I have not been notified or received my scholarship. What should I do?
Please contact your department administrator.
I have already thanked my donor in person. Do I still need to write a letter?
It is wonderful that you had the opportunity to meet with your donor! We hope it was a wonderful experience and that you were able to share your personal experiences from BSPH and your gratitude for receiving a scholarship. Yes, we still need you to write a thank you letter, as we use these letters for important stewardship activities such as sharing with other donors or prospective donors who are interested in student aid, school publications and in our acknowledgment letters to donors.
In what types of publications would portions of my letters appear?
We include quotes from student letters in school publications, such as the giving page or our Grateful Steward newsletter, as well as in acknowledgment letters to our donors. Our staff may also bring copies of letters with them to share with donors or prospective donors who are interested in student aid.
How will I be recognized if I am unable to attend the Honors and Awards Ceremony?
Your name and award will be listed on the School’s website and in the program found online at the above website and handed out at the Honors and Awards Ceremony. Our office will send your award certificate to the address provided on your RSVP form.

What is the suggested dress code for the Honors and Awards Ceremony?
We suggest business or business casual, as you will have your photograph taken with Dean MacKenzie when you receive your award.
Are all scholarships recognized at the Honors and Awards Ceremony?
Generally, it is named scholarships that are recognized. Others are included at the discretion of the donor or the department.
I received a scholarship but have not received an invitation to the Honors and Awards Ceremony. Why?
Honors and Awards scholarships are named scholarships provided to students through donor gifts to the School. Other scholarships are given out by the School or departments as financial aid. This is different from a named scholarship. The Honors and Awards Ceremony is to recognize scholarship recipients and to provide them with an opportunity to meet the donor of their scholarship.
What is the deadline for submitting my information?
Our office will reach out to you directly to request all necessary materials and will provide a deadline when these materials are due.
