JHU New Public Safety Initiative

Dear Faculty, Students and Staff,

I am writing to follow up on a message sent yesterday from President Daniels and Dean Rothman about the possibility of adding a Johns Hopkins University police department to the current campus security program.

I would like to emphasize that the University has been working closely with city leaders and the community to evaluate options and this dialogue will continue. Similarly, they will fully engage with faculty, students, and staff across the university and medical campuses in the months and days to come to ensure that any move forward will uphold the core values of our institution.

We know you may have questions and we will be providing a range of opportunities here at the School and across the campus to discuss the announcement. As a first step, we will organize a forum for later this month - open to all faculty, staff and students and available via webcast. Stay tuned for details as to how you can be involved in the discussion. We are in the very early stages of preparing for this potential move and it will be critically important that we get feedback.

In the meantime, I encourage you to visit the Johns Hopkins University website for information. This site also provides the opportunity to submit questions and comments Campus Safety and Security website.

This is an opportunity to strengthen public safety and build a model university police department that makes sense for the needs, best practices and values of Johns Hopkins.
