 | Third Term, held in even-numbered years, Tuesdays, 1:30-3:30 pm 2024 E. Monument St.,Suite 2-600, Whelton Room Course is restricted to students in the cardiovascular disease epidemiology concentration. Students will become familiar with techniques used to detect and quantify the presence of clinical cardiovascular disease. Initially, students will be given a tour of the hospital, medical records department, angiography, echocardiography, and vascular laboratories. Students as a group will observe radiographic (CT and MRI) imaging of atherosclerosis and review gross and histological specimens of atherosclerosis in the pathology laboratory. One session will be spent in the anatomy lab viewing cadaver atherosclerotic lesions.In addition, each student will choose to make direct observations of any one imaging technique including cardiac or carotid echocardiography, coronary or peripheral angiography, EBCT or helical CT imaging to determine coronary calcium scores, or clinical assessment of blood pressure and ankle/brachial index.
