Intended for first-year MHS or PhD students, primarily in Epidemiology, and MPH students.
*Master's and doctoral students in the clinical epidemiology and cardiovascular epidemiology concentrations are required to attend. This course describes the epidemiology and prevention of diabetes, obesity, and associated complications. It discusses methodological issues associated with evaluating these in epidemiologic studies. It is designed to cover the global epidemics of diabetes and obesity, environmental and genetic risk factors, as well as interventions to improve diabetes outcomes and weight management. The course includes lectures from several expert faculty members in the Bloomberg School of Public Health and the School of Medicine.
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to 1) describe the epidemiology and prevention of diabetes, obesity, and associated complications; 2) discuss methodological issues associated with evaluating these in epidemiologic studies; and 3) apply methodological priniciples when implementing research studies or interpreting the scientific literature.
