|  The Welch Center employs a full range of research methodologies in its efforts to generate and disseminate the knowledge required to prevent disease and its consequences. The Center conducts patient-oriented research, collecting primary data from human subjects in clinical and population-based settings, but also has extensive expertise in research analyzing secondary data from national multi-center studies, complex national health surveys, and administrative data.
 Cross cutting areas of research include clinical epidemiology (including genetic and molecular epidemiology), outcomes research, evidence-based medicine, cost-effectiveness research, lifestyle intereventions and health behaviors, primary care research (including quality of care and patient-physician communication), health and healthcare disparities, and aging.
Major diseases and conditions studied include cardiovascular disease (hypertension, stroke, coronary artery disease), kidney disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes and related conditions, mental health disorders (depression, substance abuse, serious mental illness), and cancer. |
