
The Welch Center's own Lisa Cooper, MD, MPH, FACP, is being featured on the front page of the MSNBC website as one of theGrio.com’s “100 History Makers in the Making.” In celebration of Black History Month, popular website theGrio: African American Breaking News and Opinion has compiled a listing of 100 African Americans who are making an impact on many facets of contemporary life. Included in the list are leaders from business, health, politics, popular culture and entertainment, arts and culture, the sciences, sports, service and activism, education, and media and education. Dr. Cooper is recognized for her groundbreaking work on racial disparities in healthcare. In the category of health, she finds herself lauded alongside Dr. Regina Benjamin, U.S. Surgeon General, and Dr. Otis Brawley, Chief Medical Officer of the American Cancer Society, among others. Dr. Cooper also finds herself in the company of other Baltimore-area honorees Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, III, President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and incoming Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.
