The faculty and staff of the Welch Center share a number of core values. These values guide their work as they strive for academic excellence, rigorous scientific investigation, evidence-based clinical practice, and dissemination of new knowledge:

• Collaboration and Team Building (within and outside the Welch Center) – The Center maximizes collaboration among disciplines, pooling diverse intellectual and other resources. Faculty appreciate and value each colleague’s efforts and views, and trust each other to carry through in a collegial fashion.
• Creativity and New Ideas – The Center ventures into new frontiers of scholarship by fostering an environment that encourages innovation. Faculty gatherings (seminars and work group meetings) provide a forum for exchange of ideas.
• Mentoring and Development – The Center identifies new talent and invests in it by guiding trainees and junior faculty to find their paths in academic scholarship and helping them acquire the intellectual and financial resources to flourish. Faculty help trainees develop their unique skills, and maintain open communication during their training.
• Opportunities for Leadership – The Center gives credibility to young people by distributing responsibility early on and providing opportunities for younger faculty to teach and share knowledge gained from training.
• Patient and Public Health Impact – The Center strives for academic excellence to make its work relevant to individual patients and to the public at large.
