Founded in 1989, the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology, and Clinical Research is an impressive academic unit that is affiliated with Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Bloomberg School of Public Health. It is an incredibly special place, one that fuels creativity, that inspires students and faculty, and that fosters excellence.

Through its educational programs and its research, the Welch Center promotes the application of rigorous methods to conduct clinical, epidemiologic, and translational research of the highest quality. Our faculty includes physicians with a keen interest in public health and epidemiologists with a deep appreciation of clinical factors that influence health outcomes. The resulting environment is highly interdisciplinary, intensely collaborative, and intellectually stimulating, not to mention fun.

Dr. AppelIf you are a potential student or fellow, I urge you to visit us and attend one of our many educational activities (Journal Club, Welch Center Grand Rounds, Interest Groups, or Research-in-Progress conferences). I also encourage you to navigate through the various sections of this website that highlight our faculty, students, and their research and teaching accomplishments.

If you have any question, do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to meeting you.

Most sincerely,

Lawrence J. Appel, MD, MPH

Director of the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research
