Pediatric Weight Management Program

The Pediatric Weight Management Program at the Johns Hopkins Weight Management Center is designed to help children between the ages of six and 12 who have problems with:

  • recent excessive weight gain
  • a need for improved eating and exercise habits
  • diagnosis of overweight/obesity with related medical conditions such as diabetes, hyperlipidemia and hypertentsion

The program offers a comprehensive nutrition evaluation and exercise prescription. Other services available include metabolic testing and behavioral counseling.

Guiding Principles for Treating Overweight Youth

  1. Establish personalized treatment goals based on age, degree of overweight and the presence of medical conditions.
  2. Involve the family in the treatment plan.
  3. Provide frequent monitoring.
  4. Provide realistic recommendations for dietary and exercise changes that can be incorporated by both the child and family.
  5. Encourage lasting lifestyle changes.

Prior to your arrival, you will be asked to complete the pediatric application. Download, print and complete the application and bring it with you to your initial scheduled assessment.
