U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents

To apply for federal student aid:

  1. File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid: www.fafsa.ed.gov. Indicate that the information should be sent to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health—Code E00234.
  2. Submit the Public Health Federal Student Aid Application.
  3. If selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education, you will need to provide a signed copy of your (and your spouse’s, if married) Federal Income Tax Return and a Federal Verification Worksheet:

As a graduate student you meet the federal definition of an independent student; thus, you do not need to provide parental data on the FAFSA.

We recommend that you complete your federal income tax return before filling out your FAFSA. You do not, however, need to file your income tax return with the Internal Revenue Service before you submit your FAFSA. If you have not yet filed your tax return, you may estimate your income and tax information on the FAFSA. When you file your tax return, you must update any income or tax information that changed since you filed your FAFSA.

Stipend payments should be reported as taxable income on your FAFSA. Do not list stipends as scholarship aid on Worksheet C of the FAFSA.

To apply for Maryland State Aid you must submit your FAFSA by March 1 and

  • in Step One: Indicate that you are a Maryland resident
  • in Step Five: You must list a Maryland school as your first choice
