
On Sat, October 3rd, 2009, SOURCE will host the FallTri-School (Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health) Day of Service (a part of Baltimore Week Activities!) A variety of one-time community service projects are listed below.
Co-sponsors include: InterAction Council (SOM), Student Assembly's Community Affairs Committee (JHSPH), Environmental Health Science Student Organization (JHSPH), Black Student Nurses Association (SON) Most projects require no special skills or advance knowledge. Simply bring yourself and your willingness to contribute: To Sign Up: Email source@jhsph.edu with your name, email, phone number, and top 3 choices. Projects will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. This Day of Service is a part of Baltimore Week Activities, Fri October 2- Sun, October 11. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to participate in all activities. 8:00 am—12:00 pm. Assist the American Diabetes Association with their fundraising walk! Volunteers will assist with registration, food service, setup and cleanup. 8:30 am—12:30 pm One of our Baltimore City Public Schools is in need of some TLC! The main project will be painting walls and hallways. T-shirts and snacks will be provided on this project. 8:30 am—12:30 pm Work with Civic Works to beautify the community gardens close to our Schools. This will include mulching, planting, and soiling. A fun “hands on” activity! 9:00 am —1:00 pm The Door, a communty development organization that works against povertty in East Baltimore, needs assistance with it's building clean up and clean out project. 9:30 am—1:30 pm Work alongside high school youth to volunteer at a transitional housing shelter. Activities will include painting a mural, planting a garden, doing arts and crafts with resident children, painting, and organizing toys and books. This neighborhood senior center is in need of a few helping hands to put a fresh coat of paint on the lines in their parking lot. Lunch will be provided! 10:00 am—1:00 pm Help with a carpet shampooing project at this local neighborhood center which offers parenting, life skills, job training/placement, and health education courses.
—2:00 pm Project PLASE provides shelter and transitional housing to those who are homeless, living with mental illness, and/or those with terminal diseases such as AIDS. The organization needs help with donation organization and inventory and clean out. |
