The Initiative is a plan to stabilize and revitalize Middle East Baltimore by transforming the neighborhood into a thriving, healthier and economically prosperous community for families and children.
EBDI has opportunities for students to work with people of all ages on a variety of projects. The new “East Baltimore Community School” (public K-8) - Adopt-a-class – Read to students, tutor, mentor, participate in the life of the school
- Elev8 – Work with family advocates in the Elev8 program who are engaging middle-school parents and their children
- Conduct health education programs for children and families
- After school programs: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri from 4 – 6 pm, and Wed from 1 – 5 pm
EBDI project area - Help a resident who became a master gardener with community vegetable garden
- Beautification projects – painting, gardening
Senior Housing - Nursing students for health screenings and workshops (already have SON faculty supervision)
- Conduct fitness and nutrition classes for low-income seniors and families
- Companionship and Games (crafts, movie, and poker nights in place)
EBDI Main Administrative Office - Help with grant-seeking and grant-writing
