Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS), is a non-profit organization created in 2004. We work in conjunction with the Baltimore City Bureau of Animal Control. Together our mission is to protect animals from neglect, abuse and exploitation, to advocate their interests and welfare, and to inspire awareness and compassion for all living things.

Volunteers MUST have their own health insurance and are required to have a current tetanus vaccination. BARCS can provide tetanus vaccinations free of charge on Wednesdays and must be arranged no later than 12 noon on the Monday before. Volunteers MUST attend a one hour general orientation and additional hours if you would like to work with dogs (4 additional hours) and cats (2 additional hours).
