Community Service

Soon after their arrival at the Bloomberg School, the first class of Sommer Scholars decided they wanted a close connection with the East Baltimore community. In collaboration with the Student Outreach Resource Center (SOURCE), Hopkins’ community service and volunteerism center, Sommer Scholars launched a tutoring project with Dr. Rayner Browne Elementary School, located less than a mile from the School. Sommer Scholars provide math and literacy tutoring on a weekly basis to students in kindergarten through the fifth grade.  This started a tradition of service to the East Baltimore community that the Sommer Scholars continue each year through various projects.
