SUBJECT: Annual Ruth Freeman Award
GENERAL
STATEMENT
Dr.
Ruth B. Freeman served this School of Public Health for twenty-one years. She was known as this country's outstanding
force in developing community health nursing.
Perhaps most apparent was her devotion to her students who, without
exception, have felt and expressed gratitude for her superb teaching and
humanity.
POLICY
This
award has been established to recognize outstanding academic performance of a
graduating doctoral nurse in the School during the previous year.
PROCEDURE
The
Awards Committee for the School appoints a faculty panel to assess nominations.
Eligibility
is limited to graduating doctoral nurses.
A
memorandum is sent out to each member of the faculty asking faculty members to
nominate any of their advisees whom they feel is an appropriate candidate for
this award. Selection is based on the
judgment of the faculty panel of the nurse who has produced the outstanding
thesis from among those nurses receiving their doctorates.
The
award shall be given annually at the Convocation of the Bloomberg School of
Public Health.
