POLICY AND PROCEDURE MEMORANDUM ADMINISTRATION AND GOVERNANCE - 6

SUBJECT:     Annual Ruth Freeman Award

GENERAL STATEMENT

Dr. Ruth B. Freeman served this School of Public Health for twenty-one years.  She was known as this country's outstanding force in developing community health nursing.  Perhaps most apparent was her devotion to her students who, without exception, have felt and expressed gratitude for her superb teaching and humanity.

POLICY

This award has been established to recognize outstanding academic performance of a graduating doctoral nurse in the School during the previous year.

PROCEDURE

The Awards Committee for the School appoints a faculty panel to assess nominations.

Eligibility is limited to graduating doctoral nurses.

A memorandum is sent out to each member of the faculty asking faculty members to nominate any of their advisees whom they feel is an appropriate candidate for this award.  Selection is based on the judgment of the faculty panel of the nurse who has produced the outstanding thesis from among those nurses receiving their doctorates.

The award shall be given annually at the Convocation of the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
