SUBJECT:     Annual Cornelius W. Kruse Award

GENERAL STATEMENT

            Former students, colleagues and friends of the late Dr. Cornelius W. Kruse wishing to establish a lasting memorial to a professor who had given so much of himself to the students, the School, and to the world at large, contributed gifts to a memorial fund to endow an annual award bearing Dr. Kruse's name.

POLICY

            This award is to be given to a student for the outstanding dissertation in environmental health science.

PROCEDURE

            The awardee shall not be limited to graduates of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences.  Any student of the Bloomberg School of Public Health whose dissertation is in an area normally recognized as environmental health sciences may be considered for the award.  The awardee shall be a graduate whose dissertation is judged by the Selection Committee to be outstanding.

            A Selection Committee shall be appointed by the chair of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences from the faculty of the Department composed of not less than four persons at the rank of assistant professor or above.  One member of the Selection Committee shall be a faculty member of the Division of Environmental Health Engineering.

            The award shall be given annually at the Convocation of the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
