BLOOMBERG SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH
OFFICE OF THE DEAN
Date Effective:May 17, 1982
POLICY
AND PROCEDURE MEMORANDUM ADMINISTRATION AND GOVERNANCE - 3
SUBJECT: Policy Statement on Annual Mary B. Meyer
Memorial Award
GENERAL
STATEMENT
Former students, colleagues and
friends of the late Mrs. Mary B. Meyer, wishing to establish a lasting memorial
to an associate professor who had given so much of herself to the students and
to the School, contributed gifts to a memorial fund to endow an annual award
bearing Mrs. Meyer's name.
POLICY
This award has been established to
recognize outstanding academic performance of a student in the Department of
Epidemiology during the previous year.
PROCEDURE
The chairman of the Department of
Epidemiology appoints a committee consisting of full professors in the
Department of Epidemiology together with the Director of Student Affairs in the
Department of Epidemiology.
Preference is being given to
continuing rather than graduate students and eligibility is limited to doctoral
students who have passed their School oral examinations and are presently doing
research and registered as full-time students in the Department of
Epidemiology.
A memorandum is sent out to each
member of the faculty asking faculty members to nominate any of their advisees
whom they feel is an appropriate candidate for this award. Selection is based on a combination of grade
point average, performance in written and oral comprehensive examinations and
assessments by members of the Department of Epidemiology faculty.
This award shall be given annually
at the Convocation of the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
