Former students, colleagues and friends of the late John P. Young, D.Eng., professor of Health Policy and Management in the area of management sciences, wishing to establish a lasting memorial to a professor who had given so much of himself to the students, School and University, contributed gifts to a memorial fund to endow an annual award bearing Dr. Young's name.

POLICY

This award has been established to recognize annually the student in the Division of Health Finance and Management who has written the best paper in the general field of stochastic modeling of health systems, health economics and health finance and management.  If the selection committee judges that none of the submitted papers meets the appropriate criteria, no award will be made that year.

An announcement is posted and a memorandum is sent to each student in the Division inviting him or her to submit for review a paper written during the relevant academic year.  The faculty selection committee will judge the papers according to the following criteria:  originality, scientific merit and significance to the fields represented in the Division.

Both a monetary award and a certificate shall be given to the awardee and his or her name shall be inscribed on a permanent plaque displayed in the divisional offices.

The selection shall be made each spring in time for the name of the awardee to be announced at the annual Convocation of the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
