THE JOHNS HOPKINS
BLOOMBERG SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH
OFFICE OF THE DEAN
Date Effective: April 26, 1988
POLICY
AND PROCEDURE MEMORANDUM ADMINISTRATION AND GOVERNANCE - 10
SUBJECT: Policy Statement on Annual Harry D. Kruse
Award in Nutrition
GENERAL
STATEMENT
The Harry D. Kruse Award in
Nutrition was established through the generosity of the Kruse family. Dr. Kruse received his ScD in 1926 from the
Department of Biochemistry and during his year at the School worked with Dr. E.V.
McCollum on major issues in the field of nutrition.
POLICY
This award has been established to
recognize a continuing full-time doctoral candidate who has demonstrated
outstanding academic performance and professional potential in the fields of
nutrition and public health.
PROCEDURE
The chairs of the departments of
International Health, Biochemistry, Maternal and Child Health, and Epidemiology
will each appoint one member to serve on an ad hoc interdepartmental Harry D.
Kruse Nutrition Award Committee. This
committee will then request from the chair of every department of the Bloomberg
School of Public Health one nominee from the respective department to be
considered for the award. Nominations
must be supported by a letter from the student's advisor, a copy of the
student's transcript and a brief (less than one page) description of the
student's proposed topic for dissertation research. Eligibility is limited to continuing doctoral students who have
completed or are about to complete at least one year in residence and who are
planning to undertake dissertation research related to nutrition and public
health.
Selection will be based on grade
point average, relevance of the proposed dissertation research project to
nutrition and public health, and the student's potential for future
professional contribution to the field.
