SUBJECT: Continuing Education Courses

POLICY:

In recognition of the need for lifelong development of professional and academic knowledge, tools, and skills, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is committed to the provision of continuing education. The School of Public Health Office of Continuing Education is designated to provide coordination and oversight for continuing education courses. Courses offered for Continuing Nursing Education are offered in partnership with the Institute for Johns Hopkins Nursing. The Office of Continuing Education is committed to providing coordination among the faculty and departments offering these courses. The Office has designated a minimum level of information that must be provided about courses prior to scheduling, and a basic level of uniformity among printed materials and registration information. This information is shared with faculty and staff and is subject to periodic review and revision.

This Policy does not cover courses approved for academic credit taught as part of the academic programs of the School, nor does it cover occasional lectures, symposia or other activities consistent with the professional activities of the faculty.

PROCEDURES:

Courses with or without academic credit from another institution, taught by JHSPH faculty for other institutions where the JHSPH name IS NOT put forth as a sponsor are subject to the Conflicts of Interest and Commitment Policy of the JHSPH (JHSPH Policy and Procedures Memorandum for Faculty #4) requiring full disclosure by faculty to the department chair through the JHSPH and JHU Technology Transfer Policies governing the use of educational materials.

Courses with or without academic credit from another institution, taught by JHSPH faculty in partnership with other institutions where the JHSPH name IS put forth as a sponsor are subject to review and approval by the JHSPH Office of Continuing Education, and are subject to the Conflicts of Interest and Commitment Policy of the JHSPH (JHSPH Policy and Procedures Memorandum for Faculty #4) requiring full disclosure by faculty to the department chair through the JHSPH and JHU Technology Transfer Policies governing the use of educational materials;

Administrative approval in advance by the JHSPH Office of Continuing Education, including advertising materials, and when courses are offered for academic credit, by the JHSPH Committee on Academic Standards; and

A signed agreement or Memoranda of Understanding between the institution and the JHSPH Dean's Office indicating the type and level of collaboration, the time period, financial arrangements, and other relevant conditions, subject to approval by the JHSPH Office of Research Administration.
